Motorcycle Crash Update

Mr ______,
I wanted to let you know I was able to talk with the EMS liason at the hospital.
Our patient is going to live, and will probably make a full recovery. He has some degree of TBI (traumatic brain injury), but it doesn't appear that he'll be permanently debilitated from it. As of today, he's still in ICU and is awake and able to talk. He will have a long recovery with many surgeries to fix his face, though.
We were supposed to meet face to face, but today has been a busy one on the ambulance. So, we had a 20 minute discussion on the phone instead. He apologized profusely for what happened. He said the phone call that night was on a recorded line, that he listened to it, and that we couldn't have done a better job describing the scene and the 'mechanism of injury'. All the criteria needed to declare the Trauma Alert. He did say the nurse who refused to make the 'call' has "been on their radar". As a result, the entire nursing staff in the ER has a mandatory meeting tomorrow with him and the Medical Director to "make sure this never happens again".
I'll give credit where it's due. Judging by the conversation we had, they seem to have done a thorough investigation, and are taking steps to correct the problem. It was a pleasant surprise to find out someone actually listened. I think they've taken this incident seriously and it seems to be snowballing into something potentially good.
